ABSTRACT

The prognostic significance of cervical lymph node status in squamous cell carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract is well recognized. Metastases to regional lymph nodes reduce 5-year survival rates to nearly one-half that of patients with disease confined to the primary site.1 Appropriate management of the neck is therefore critical in planning treatment for patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract.
