ABSTRACT

As described in Chapter 1, all circulating cells found in the blood are derived from the same pool of parental cell or pluripotent stem cells (PSC). The pluripotent stem cell is primarily found in the bone marrow of long bones and the pelvis. Although these PSC make up only 0.1% of all the cells found in the marrow, these are the cells that give rise to all circulating blood cells (Figure 3.1).
