Cellular automata and rule based techniques in ecohydraulics modelling In the context of this chapter, the integration of the cellular automata paradigm and rule based modelling techniques is investigated. Clearly, the dynamics of the EcoCA model introduced in chapter 2 is still purely dependent on geometric relations between neighbouring cells, and does not account for physical or biological processes. Therefore, the approach followed here is to extend the conventional cellular automata paradigm by incorporating external forcing.
