ABSTRACT

Cathodic protection has only a limited application as a method for preventing the corrosion of steelwork but it is used for many important structures, particularly offshore, and so is an important method of corrosion control. The concept of cathodic protection is straightforward, but in practice specialist advice should be sought to obtain economic protection. In this chapter only the broad principles will be considered but a number of useful publications are listed at the end of the chapter for those wishing to pursue the matter further.
