ABSTRACT
As described by Meilinger (2004) and Gawande (2009), the date was October 30, 1935. The place was Wright Air Force Field in Dayton, Ohio. And, the event, sponsored by the U.S. Army Air Corps, was a flight competition among major airplane manufacturers, all of whom were attempting to snare a lucrative contract to produce the military’s next-generation, longrange bomber.
