ABSTRACT

In project management jargon, being “right on schedule” means that they are at exactly where they are supposed to be according to the activities on the project Gantt chart-at this moment in time. Richard has heard lots of project managers describe it exactly like that. On one occasion, however, he heard the project manager make this pat comment on a due-diligence project during a potential acquisition. It made him feel uneasy. You see, the manager they were reporting to was not interested in the Gantt chart. He had one objective only, and it wasn’t an accurate Gantt chart. His interest was in whether or not they had found anything during the analysis that could jeopardize the acquisition.
