ABSTRACT
It started out as a casual exercise. I asked one of the Virginia Mason executives what she considered the essential elements of the organization’s success. “Alignment, teamwork, and transparency,” she said, without hesitating. She thought for an additional moment before adding, “And definitely accountability-and we are, maybe as much as anything, a learning organization.”
