ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 covered the most difficult part of the “how to get ready to instruct” items: break down the job. This chapter examines the other three “get ready” points listed on the Job Instruction (JI) pocket card: make a timetable for training, get everything ready, and arrange the worksite. As with break down the job, Training Within Industry (TWI) developers road-tested these three JI get ready points in actual industry settings and with groups of supervisors until they achieved the most effective program content and format, and nothing in this chapter deviates from their findings. Supervisors often ignore or forget to apply these three points. Don’t. Although they are easier to learn than break down the job, they are just as important. Their proper use can mean the success or failure of your training effort.
