ABSTRACT

The aquaporins (AQPs) are a family of transmembrane water channel proteins and play a crucial role in transcellular and transepithelial water movement. Recent evidence indicates that AQPs may be involved in cell proliferation, migration and angiogenesis, each of which plays an important role in human carcinogenesis. is chapter summarizes recent data concerning the involvement of AQPs in tumour growth, angiogenesis and metastasis. Furthermore, we briey discuss various potential therapeutic approaches by antagonizing their biological activity.
