In a grazing system, animals feed upon pasture or range vegetation and the human managers of the system harvest milk, meat, or fiber from the animals. In ecological terms, the primary production of the vegetation is the basis for the secondary production of protein-rich animal products (Chapter 2, pp. 24-26).
