ABSTRACT

Clam shrimp, Cyzicus morsie, (Eubranchiopoda: Conchostraca) can interfere with fish production in waim w ater hatchery ponds. W hen clam shrimp populations reach nuisance levels, they cause excessive turbidity which interferes with spawning, fry collection, and photosynthesis (M cCraren and Phillips 1977). Large numbers of clam shrimp greatly reduce the desirable zooplankton upon which fish feed (M cCraren et al. 1977). Clam shrimp can im pede fish harvest by clogging screens and suspending sediment, which fills the kettles in hatchery ponds.
