ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we describe the basic sensor systems that acquire remote sensing images, as well as the main Earth observation (EO) satellite missions. Understanding the basics of how images are acquired helps the interpretation process, while being familiar with satellite missions provides an overview of the information potentially available for different applications.
