ABSTRACT
In a grazing system, heterotrophic animals feed upon pasture or range vegetation and the human managers of the system harvest milk, meat, or ber from the animals. In ecological terms, the primary production of the vegetation is the basis for the secondary production of protein-rich animal products (Chapter 2 of Agroecology: The Ecology of Sustainable Food Systems).
