ABSTRACT
You are asked by your friends on the Internal Medicine team to come down and see a 72-year-old woman who is in their clinic for routine follow-up of her diabetes. She lives alone. When her daughter went to pick her up for her appointment, she found the patient “talking gibberish,” but decided not to take her to the Emergency Department, since they were “going to go see a doctor anyway.”
