Neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation (NBIA) is a heterogeneous group of inherited neurologic disorders characterized by progressive movement disorders and abnormal accumulation of iron in the basal ganglia (Gregory and Hayick 2011, Schneider et al. 2012).
