ABSTRACT

The Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement is a movement like no other. As of 2017, the movement is led by 59 "SUN countries" and the Indian States of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. One in three people are affected by malnutrition in nearly every country worldwide. This is a global crisis, but the evidence needed to respond is known and well documented. Every man, woman, and child have the right to adequate food and nutrition. This right is enshrined in several international human rights and other treaties. Malnutrition is linked to an estimated 45" of all under-5 mortalities. Malnutrition results not just from a lack of sufficient, adequately nutritious and safe food, but from a variety of contributing factors including health, care, education, sanitation and hygiene, access to food and resources, and women's empowerment. In 2008, a global food prices crisis struck, and World Bank estimated that at least 100 million people were likely to be pushed back into poverty.
