ABSTRACT

Interface design has dramatically changed entertainment, education, social relationships, and entire environments and human behavior. People innovating in the user interface (UI) field have the responsibility to share and build upon what is being discovered. This chapter argues that open source information has been the key to the successful growth of the visual experience field, which includes not only graphic designers but also animators, computer scientists, sociologists, and more. Technology will be making huge leaps over the next 10-20 years, with digital natives increasingly comfortable in their own virtual-reality environments. The workshop highlighted the future of typography, the information landscape, and how to interact with information in dimensional spaces. The information landscape was a new interface design for text that the user could virtually fly through. At that time, it was overwhelming to see an interface with no boundaries compared to contemporary 2D websites with their very restricted layouts.
