ABSTRACT

Globally, through the past few decades a sincere attempt has been made to replace conventional fuels with renewable fuels. Renewable transportation fuels from biomass have the potential to substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions and diversify global fuel supplies. Various biomass feedstocks in terms of their suitability and availability have been discussed in this chapter. Potential feedstocks for production of biofuels are classified according to their origin or source. Global availability and exploitation potentials of individual materials have been listed. Advantages and setbacks of feedstock are explored and their known applications tabulated. Finally, a critical appraisal of the compiled feedstock materials has been summarized.
