Marie Ennemond Camille Jordan (1838-1922)

Camille Jordan was an important French mathematician and engineer who made significant contributions to topology, linear algebra, complex analysis, group theory and measure theory. Born in Lyon, he was later trained as an engineer at the famous Ecole Polytechnique. He was appointed as professor of analysis at the Ecole Polytechnique in 1876, and later served as a professor at the College de France in 1883.
