ABSTRACT

Creating a sense of urgency is about communicating the importance of Lean as the basis for business improvements to all and sundry. It is about sharing the cost of the status quo and the impact it will have on the company. The endeavor should be to paint such a picture that it creates a concern in not only the leadership but also the teams below the leaders that the change is a prerequisite for survival of the business. Go to the extent of telling them how this will affect them personally or their work. This should motivate them to take immediate action. But, remember, the change has to be rooted in something that is real and of operational need. It cannot be something abstract and esoteric. Make sure that the business case of the Lean transformation is communicated to the employees in the context that is relevant and understandable to them.
