ABSTRACT

It is not difficult to understand that Lean has to be driven by top management; this was discussed previously. Without the mindshare of the top management, it may be futile to start a Lean transformation. When I talk about top management, I am referring to not only the chief executive officer (CEO) but also his direct reportees. When we talk about leadership engagement, it has to be much more than just doing lip service. I have seen many CEOs talking about all the right things in their speeches, but if you talk about investing time to find out what is going on, their calendar would suddenly be filled with meetings.
