ABSTRACT

A key element to build a Lean culture is to make everyone in the company practice PDCA. So, what is PDCA? It stands for Plan-Do-Check-Act. The PDCA cycle was originally conceived by Walter Shewhart and later adopted by W. Edwards Deming, who is often referred to as the father of modern quality management. Deming referred to it as the Shewhart cycle, but the PDCA cycle is often referred to as the Deming wheel or Deming cycle (Figure 33.1).
