ABSTRACT

Implementation of Lean in a service context is about intelligent customization of tools that have been applied to manufacturing organizations. Chief executive officers of service companies often ask me if there is a holistic model that will provide them direction on how to go about implementing Lean. My response is that the Toyota Production System is the model to look for. However, if you find it difficult to comprehend it as you may not have worked in service organizations, I would recommend that you look at the DEB-LOREX™ (Figure 59.1) model for holistic Lean deployment. It is my creation, and the model focuses on elements that are required to make a Lean service organization.
