Towards evidence-based practice: the role of research and development, training and education

In 1988 the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology reported on priorities in medical research1 and concluded that the NHS needed to be brought into the mainstream of research. The response was the establishment of an NHS research and development (R&D) strategy, led by Professor Sir Michael Peckham.
