ABSTRACT

The total time to work through the module depends on the amount of time the reader spends reflecting on how the information in the module applies to him or her, before completing the exercises. Interruptions are one of the biggest time wasters, especially if someone else could have handled the problem or taken the message, or no action was required. A certain degree of time pressure may be necessary for one to maintain interest and momentum in getting a job done. Delegate as much paper-based work as possible – it makes economic sense to ensure that there is sufficient clerical infrastructure to maximise clinical time. Employing domestic or gardening help is often cited by general practitioners as one of the most effective stress-relieving actions they have found, giving them instant access to time at home.
