ABSTRACT
Sir John MacAlister FSA (1856-1925) (see Figure i)1 is best known for his enormously influential role in the foundation of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM).2 However, another major interest was postgraduate medical education in London, and beyond; in fact, MacAlister was a major pioneer of this then neglected discipline.
