In Wales, a similar transfer of budgets occurred from April 2000. In Scot­ land, GP registrar salaries had already been transferred from health boards to the Scottish Council for Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education in April 1998, and in Northern Ireland the transfer of the GMS budget to the Northern Ireland Council of Postgraduate Medicine and Dental Education occurred in April 1999.
