ABSTRACT

It is a great pleasure to be invited to give this presentation at what I believe to be an exciting time for collaboration between undergraduate (UG) and postgradu ate (PG) wings of GP education. When I first took steps from full-time general practice into academic practice fifteen years ago I think it would be fair to say that relations between the two wings were sometimes distant, and in some cases antagonistic. There were historical explanations for this, but in recent years we have seen many more reasons for partnership and collaborative working. In my view, the latest changes to the structure and organisation of the NHS give us opportunities to strengthen further our collaborative approach.
