ABSTRACT

Ravi watched the basketball sail over the backboard, “Nice try, Dad. Maybe a little softer will do it.”

Ravi’s father was not a good basketball player. He shot in the awkward two hands from the chest style used by adults who have never played basketball before. On top of that, he was not a naturally coordinated person. Nonetheless, being a busy district attorney, he always made a conscious effort to do father-son things with Ravi on the weekends, like “shoot hoops.” Ravi would have been perfectly content to just talk with his father or play chess, but he went along to make his father happy.
