Disturbances in glycaemia can significantly alter brain functions. Several brain-

mapping techniques have been developed to characterize complex functional topog-

raphy of the brain. This chapter introduces basic principles and instrumentations

of two optical imaging techniques used for investigating cerebral hemodynamics:

intrinsic optical signal imaging and laser speckle imaging. Especially, these two

imaging techniques are used to study influences of acute hyperglycaemia on cerebral

blood flow and spreading depression in rat cerebral cortex.
