ABSTRACT

Antibiotic use has been associated with the emergence of resistant organisms,

increased exposure to and colonization with pathogenic organisms, and increased

risk of infectious illness. The growing prevalence of antibiotic resistance is

rapidly eroding one of our most formidable forces against bacterial pathogens.

The pervasive and indiscriminate use of antibiotics is considered one of the most

important inciting agents in this globally developing crisis. However, even what

was thought to be the appropriate use of antibiotics for acne and rosacea has led

to problems with resistance because of the chronic nature of these conditions.
