ABSTRACT

In Statistique du Departement du Leman, Jean Charles Leonard Sismondi not only summarizes the economic situation of the Region, but he also undertakes an analysis of the productive sectors to be incentivized as well as “culture” and consumer habits, the composition of demand, and places where knowledge was “formed.” On analyzing Leman’s economy, Sismondi noticed that wool production emerged as one of the most promising sectors to be developed by increasing the quality of the product. To respond to the dilemma, it is useful to clarify the impact of commercial policies on the effective creation of wealth in the Region and in general to reflect on the many aspects of political economy that are linked to the themes. In Richesse, Sismondi described the functioning of an economy in which socio-cultural heritage and the productive system of the Region played a determining role.
