ABSTRACT
The cruciate ligaments connect the tibia to the femur. They are called cruciate (crossshaped) because they cross over each other as they pass from the tibia to the femur.
The anterior cruciate ligament passes from the anterior aspect of the intercondylar area of the tibia, posteriorly to the lateral aspect of the intercondylar fossa. Conversely, the posterior cruciate ligament passes from the posterior part of the intercondylar eminence anteriorly to the medial aspect of the intercondylar fossa of the femur.
