ABSTRACT
Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) has become one of the most important food crops in the world, still far behind rice, wheat and maize, but ahead of potato in terms of total area planted. Over the past 20 years, the area planted to cassava has increased at a faster rate than that of any other food crop, while total production increased faster than any other crop except for maize (Table 1).
