ABSTRACT

Maize (Zea mays L.) has a rich history of cultivation that dates back 7000 years in Mexico (Beadle, 1977). Over the centuries, its cultivation has spread to most parts of the world. Maize cultivation practices vary significantly across agro-climatic regions of the globe, and such practices have changed many times as newer technologies and techniques became available to farmers. The recent advent of information and communication technologies has brought forth new transformations in maize cultivation practices. These technologies are transforming the way maize is cultivated around the world by providing farmers with a suite of novel tools and techniques for improving crop production, enhancing input use efficiency and increasing profitability while achieving environmental sustainability.
