ABSTRACT

To sustain the health of landscapes – from where our food comes – and people – to where our food goes – sheep production systems must be flexible to respond to temporal and spatial variability in the conditions and feed availability. Flexibility allows managers and livestock to adapt and respond to inevitable changes (Provenza et al., 2013; Blache et al., 2016) and to minimise risk. Risk management in terms of grazing sheep nutrition should not only aim to allow the producers to cope with difficult seasonal conditions but also enable them to capitalise on favourable times.
