ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Most trees – apart from those growing in plantations, horticulture, arboreta, parks, or urban settings – are distributed in various biomes, or major regions, of the terrestrial world (1; Packham et al., 1992). Each biome is characterized by its own range of animal and plant life. Chapters 2-5 of this Guide consider the various natural regions populated by trees, while Chapters 10 and 14 emphasize the vital

common trees such as Salix (willow), Sorbus, and Eucalyptus (2, 3), as well as various palms and other taxa.
