ABSTRACT

The aim of the management of asthma is control of the disease.

Control of asthma can be defined as: No daytime symptoms. No night-time awakening due to asthma. No need for rescue medication. No exacerbations. No limitations on activity including exercise. Achievement of the best possible pulmonary

function with minimal side-effects. Asthma control, however, can mean different

things to different people (81): For patients asthma control should mean

absence of symptoms and risk of exacerbations.
