ABSTRACT
Selective clearance of diseased skin with preservation of normal tissue is the aim of all treatments. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) requires absorption of light of an appropriate wavelength by a photosensitizer in an oxygen-dependent process, resulting in oxidative stress, tissue damage, and cell death. Specificity of treatment is determined by photosensitizer localization and accessibility to light delivery.
