DEFINITION A number of developmental anomalies of the hindbrain, base of skull, and upper cervical canal characterized by caudal displacement of the cerebellar tonsils, and sometimes more of the cerebellum and lower brainstem, through the foramen magnum into the cervical spinal canal.
