ABSTRACT
Is the vertigo due to a peripheral (labyrinthine) or central (CNS) lesion? A neurologic examination targeted to an assessment of standing and walking balance, eye movements, hearing, otoscopy, and the Dix-Hallpike maneuver is important to elicit focal neurologic signs and exclude central pathology.
