ABSTRACT

In addition to the frequency, this is a common medical burden to women, whether in the workplace or at home with the family. Although not life-threatening, Candida vulvovaginitis diminishes their quality of life with either increased vaginal discharge, itching, or burning. It can be an impediment to spontaneous heterosexual activity and for those women with frequent or persistent Candida infections, there is the often unexpressed fear, engendered by an emphasis in many women’s magazine articles, that such symptoms could be a symptom of unrecognized human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease. Candida vulvovaginitis is not a trivial problem to symptomatic patients.
