ABSTRACT

Visual acuity charts Charts for measuring visual acuity should be made available to district and rural hospitals. It is not necessary to purchase these charts from commercial distributors; inexpensive standard Snellen visual acuity charts can be produced locally. Local printers can print copies of the charts on heavy poster paper or light cardboard for less cost than the commercial variety can be purchased from ophthalmic equipment

distributors on plastic boards. Heavy paper or cardboard charts can be mounted on inexpensive thin pressed board; these may be laminated or covered with sheet plastic for protection. It is very important that the optotypes be reproduced by the printer exactly the same size as they are on the original standard chart.
