ABSTRACT

ETIOLOGY AND PATHOGENESIS Demodicosis results from proliferation of Demodex mites. Most cases are associated with the long-bodied mite Demodex canis, which is found in the hair follicles and the sebaceous and apocrine glands. There also appear to be two other species: a short-bodied mite living on the skin surface and follicular openings1; and an extra-long bodied form (D. injai) associated with pilosebaceous units2.
