ABSTRACT

When we in the developed world contemplate our relationship to other living organisms we tend to view ourselves as superior to and separate from them. However, in other cultures – especially those of the Third World (1) – this is not the case. A major theme of this Atlas on plant propagation in relation to conservation emphasizes that the human species is part of the web of life and that our ethical nature should provide the driving force to conserve the world’s plant (2-10), animal (11) and other resources for future generations.
