ABSTRACT

In vitro culture has been widely used for the propagation and conservation of crop genetic resources in both agriculture and horticulture (George and Sherrington, 1984; Dodds, 1991). In addition, such techniques have been adapted for use with a wide range of wild species and have been successfully applied to seed and spore germination, embryo rescue, micropropagation, meristem culture and callus culture (Fay, 1992). In this chapter, some of these methods are discussed with reference to specific successful examples.
