ABSTRACT

FRECKLE (EPHELIS) A freckle or ephelis is a brown, macular lesion characterized by increased amounts of melanin in the basal cell layer of the epidermis. The pigment is derived from hyperactive melanocytes that secrete their pigment into the basal cells. The freckle is usually found on areas of skin exposed to sunlight.
