ABSTRACT

The longitudinal sutures of the triple-loop pulley pattern are placed on the outside of the tendon, whereas in both locking-loop patterns the longitudinal sutures are within the substance of the tendon. Theoretically, placement of the logitudinal sutures outside of the tendon should cause minimal disruption of the ten don structure. A potential disadvantage of the longitudinal sutures of the triple-loop pully pattern is that the sutures may stimulate peritendinous inflammation and increase adhe sion formation. In human patients this can have serious consequences since gliding func tion is critical. In dogs and cats, gliding function is less important and adhesion forma tion does not cause clinically detectable problems.
