ABSTRACT

Applied anatomy and physiology The penis comprises the paired corpora cavernosa and the corpus spongiosum, which surrounds the urethra, and is expanded distally as the glans. Along the shaft of the penis, these structures are contained within a fibrous sheath and covered by freely mobile and very elastic skin, which is prolonged distally as the prepuce or foreskin. The corpora are attached proximally to the inferior pubic rami (214).
