ABSTRACT

An epidermal hamartoma predominantly composed of sebaceous glands. Lesions present in neonates as smooth pink-yellow velvety plaques or patches in the scalp. At puberty they become thickened and warty (350) and are often unnoticed until this time. Benign appendage tumours may develop within sebaceous naevi and there is a small life-time risk of malignant transformation, the commonest tumour being basal cell carcinoma.
